Twin cherry Cookies

These two tables were made from a single cherry cookie taken from a fallen tree in the yard of a family home. The kids have since grown and moved on, and the parents have found a new home as well. They took the slice of cherry with them, thinking that someday they could make something out of it to remind them of the old home. The piece was a little thick for a single table, so we thought we could slice it half to make two thinner bookmatched pieces. After considering various methods of splitting the piece and discarding them as too wasteful, impractical, or downright dangerous, we decided to do it the old fashioned way with a handsaw. The results are shown here mounted on a pair of walnut and cherry side tables.
